The film is clearly trying to make various points with a capital P and it’s far from perfect. It’s also heavily stylised in a way that will not be to everyone’s taste. But overall, it’s a sinister, thought provoking take on the apocalyptic movie genre.
Having read so many of the audience reviews, it makes me laugh really because clearly it’s just gone over people’s head who’ve watched it because their Netflix algo has told them it’s popular and they thought it was going to be something like Independence Day. The characters are indeed mainly unlikable….BUT THAT IS THE BLOODY POINT! The irony of this being that the themes are - in part - having a pop at the type of people for whom this is completely going over their heads. No wonder they hated it!
Anyway. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion and the fact is splits opinion and divides so heavily is also pretty ironic given how the movie concludes.
