Masta Meeks (MEEKS188)

This is one of my favorite action movies of all time and in my opinion one of the most underrated. I am befallen with utter disbelief by the reviews and ratings this movie received. Not only does it have a spectacular star studded cast but some of the best performances by a lot of these artists early in there career, including Ryan Reynolds who actually acts his ass off in this one and gives us an emotionally jarring performance. Taraji Henson shows us her depth of emotion and range and gives us one of the best moments in the film as she unleashes hell on Ryan Reynolds and the FBI. We can’t forget Common and Alicia Keyes who give us those catalyzing moments before shit really hits the fan; then we have Jeremy Piven giving us exactly what we need as the inebriated target of Buddy Israel being emotionally torn for the choices we have to make. Lastly, a young Chris Pine giving us much needed dark comedic relief as one of ‘the tremor brothers’. Enough can’t be said about the performances of so many of these awesome actors, but it is also an undeserved to give Smoking aces such a low rating and score as the director and entire production take you on an adrenaline filled ride that gives a clear direction and focus, but establishes mood and feeling throughout. If you haven’t seen this film and are on the fence, allow me to push you over to the other side. This movie is not only fun but surprisingly feeling and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Go watch Smoking Aces, you won’t be disappointed and if you agree with me will watch it again year after year. High 4 out of 5
