Well looking at the reviews I'm gonna have to say it, this game is being seriously underrated!
In a world filled with cookie cutter battle Royal games, the same BS fifa and NBA games year after year, fps games with next to no substance and microtransactions being rampent, biomutant is an amazing change of pace.
The world is stunning to look at even on a base ps4 with a great selection of biomes (desert, snow, forest to name a few) that are all well crafted and immersive, the combat is fluid but can be a little janky at times, with guns being the clear winner of most fights but that's not to say you can't build a decent melee or mage type character! It all comes down to the crafting/upgrades you choose as to how powerful your character can become in any given fight.
There is a plethora of weapons and armour to find, craft and modify to your liking as well as a good selection of special abilities or spells such as levitation, lightning and fire to aid you in combat. Crafting is definitely one of the big parts of the game as it has you not only find complete new weapons but gives you the option to break down things you find into components to be added onto other weapons or build into a new weapon all together.
The story can be hit and miss at times with a little back and fourth and several large goals for you to strive for, it can sometimes be overwhelming as to what you should tackle next. Saying that, the missions themselves have a great amount of variety from your usual fetch quests, taking over enemy outposts, exploring more dangerous areas in some of the games vehicles to creature hunting missions, exploration and some more arena style fights, there's something here for most players that are fans of this kind of game. Also the narrator isn't for everyone, he translates what the various characters of the world are saying and talks throughout the story but luckily there is an option to turn how much he speaks up or down if its not to your liking.
Other than a few frame drops and texture pops I had no issues playing through the game. I sunk around 70 hours in before I finished the main story as there are so many places to go, mini bosses to fight and loot to be had and I've just started to mop up some of the remaining areas to get the last few trophies I missed.
All in all i can't recommend this quirky devil may cry/ratchet and clank inspired game enough, it's definitely worth the launch price in my opinion so in a months time when it drops in price given the mixed reviews it's going to be a steal for anyone who hasn't picked it up yet. All this from a studio of 20 odd people and not a microtransaction in sight. Honestly I thoroughly enjoyed the game and will definitely be playing through the new game plus.
