To be honest, this game has pro’s and con’s
The pro’s: graphics are amazing, old characters come back revitalizing Fire Emblems long history. Some fun engage maps. Adopting animals (that can drop loot). Some classic anime trope characters (looking at you Ivy and Seadall).
Con’s: the story to elaborate without spoilers, easy to predict, too straight forward, no serious drama (other games had an impending doom feeling). Case point in three houses, there was betrayal, death, choices that would influence the story (dislodge decisions, having to work your butt off to recruits team members, etc.
In this new game, the characters are handed to you without any struggle (essentially all the characters are given to you for free without working for it). The characters easily like you, feel too much like anime tropes and are difficult to make a connection with or relate too. They are all too high sprung and spirited for the story, world plunged into darkness no worries let’s all be one dimensional.
It’s easy to also level up each character, farm supplies, and roam picking battles to boost each characters stats. However, the battles became a bit tiring especially when the rewards didn’t feel like rewards. Prize (wheat) do I need it for a recipe… apparently not… (can still cook things without having an ingredient), plus, the characters will fall for you regardless. There wasn’t any challenge when it came to getting a character to A.
My point in this, what was the point of including fishing and mini games, that feel like app games, if it’s so easy to get items, points, etc in battle or include it when it’s not needed (like in cooking).
Over all, the characters have no relatable personalities and are hard to connect too, the main story is just bad in my opinion and gets tiring quick (especially when you face the hounds over and over again for 20 odd chapters, with no new villains, or there is back and forth tug of war with the rings), the cliche twist (possible spoiler) for the main character’s appearance was just bad. Mini games get boring fast, fishing makes no sense when your pet cats can give you fish. Gifts make no sense in this game because it’s super easy to level up essentially everything. The wake up calls have no purpose (especially when you can’t pick the characters and also don’t like the characters to begin with).
Over all, I appreciate the effort put into the game but it’s so weak compared to the other games in the series. Perfect if you have the fire emblem itch but will quit before you finish the story (I finished it and trust me I wanted to quit sooo many times. I felt like a speed run would have been a smarter choice).
