Historical drama as it should be.

It bends a bit of history on all fronts, and stretches credulity on some, but it is a romance that carries the viewer with it, unless they're very jaded, or are reviewing the movie for The Guardian or Rolling Stone.

Magnificent. It's science fiction certainly (though these days by only an artificial hairsbreadth). But read properly, deeply, understanding Klara's growing intellect, it fires the soul. The ending is poignantly teary.

I thought it was brilliant, both as a film adaptation and for the brilliance of its two actors. And Polanski's direction was perfect.
