I first read this in my high school library. I tried very hard to keep quiet. It was so good I couldn't put it down. I was choking on my laughter and very nearly got kicked out of the library- which would have been embarrassing as I worked there at other periods.
Danial Gallery was a career naval officer and in fact commanded the carrier task force that captured the U-505, now on permanent display in Chicago.
So, his stories ring true and reveal a keen wit. His other works, particularly his recounting of his military career tongue firmly lodged in cheek.
To sum it up, this book is salty and true deep blue sea reading while being outrageously funny. Anybody who enjoys old sea or "war" stories will most definitely love this. Anybody else with any sense of humor should enjoy it too. I highly recommend it.
