First I want to point out something about most of the 1 star reviews. A lot of the people on there are mad about Disney being "woke" which hasn't been a new thing lately. Disney has been woke for a long time and I don't understand why you would take time to add a review for a movie you probably didn't watch anyway. Some of them are genuine reviews from people critizing the movie, you can tell they actually watched it and I respect those. You have a right to not like something, but actually watch it before making an opinion. Now for what I thought. I am not a fan of the remakes and live actions. I knew this would be the same. I feel like disney should grow with their audience and make the movie more adult and change it up. But they are what they are so, we are taking it for what it is. For what it is, it's probably one of the better live action movies. I can't say "not my favorite" i don't really have a favorite. I can see why they chose Halle to play Ariel. Her voice is amazing, and she gives off the princess vibes with how she acts and speaks as well. She can sing and that's no secret. Even if you don't like the movie, you would enjoy listening to her sing. I loved the connection between her and eric. it seemed they were trying to improve it from the old movie and I will say as someone who critizes these movies hard, they actually did well with building that. They were honestly very cute together. I loved some of the new songs they added. "Some" being the key word here. Halle does great with hers after she loses her voice. her facial expressions where subtle but effective. Now, surprise suprise, I didn't like the CGI. Some of it was great, blending very well. Some of it....was very odd and off. It took me out of the movie at times. But since this is a kids movie, I'm sure they won't even notice. I did not like their pick for Triton. It more or less felt like he was reading off a script and I didn't feel much emotion from him. I did not like Scuttle. At all. Not being shes a girl. Idc about that. I didn't like the song. She was just annoying and not funny. Sebastian was great! I didn't hate him even though his design was cringe when they showed it. All in all, I thought it was good. I actually thought about watching it again in theaters, which I would never do for live action. I am impressed with what they could do with this, but I still feel like they need to change it up more so people stop comparing it to the old movies and make them their own.

Okay, this is a long review so buckle up. I have been falling away from church. The hate I see preachers say, the judgement from Christians has made turned me from my community I was raised around but I always stated never from my faith. The messages I know God wants from us, this movie embodies it. Stepping aside for a moment to the negative reviews. A lot of people didn't like the message about forgiving and not judging. That having hate in our heart in turn scoots us further from God and the love we are meant to express. That forgiving is meant to heal us. That we aren't meant to pass judgement. So I get by human nature we in turn are angered by people who do us and people around us wrong, but that's the point of the movie. That's the point Jesus wanted for us, to forgive. To love. Jesus even healed a soldier who was coming to arrest him. We are meant to be more christ like. Back to what I loved. Love the cast they picked. I know many didn't like God portrayed as a woman, but God was taking a form of someone that showed peace and kindness to Mack as a child. I love the actress as a whole and I think she did amazing. Jesus was perfectly casted as well. The message and the journey of forgiveness to bring Mack back to God was beautifuly done. I felt close to God again watching this. I agree with the message. Not I think you should just shrug and walk away. Obviously that takes time and a lot of forgiveness, a lot of anger and tears. But in the end, you have to. God will be the judge, not us. This is what I've been screaming from the rooftops. This is what Christians should be doing. Thank you to whoever wrote this book and for making this movie.
