There's something never quite right with sequels or prequels. The story always seems to be stretched, or the actors from the original are otherwise employed. The studios got lucky and want a franchise to milk, right?
There's no way a follow-up EVER ilves up to expectations.
That's what I thought.
Better Call Saul is the most perfect prequel/sequel I have watched. The authenticity of the storyline, characters and direction is excellent. The writers must be given credit for the complexity of the backstory, attention to cinematographic detail and original (Breaking Bad) references to create a seamless transition from one story to the next (or in this case, previous). I could not find any audio or visual inconsistencies.
The acting is exceptional. The 3 main characters, Jimmy, Kim and Mike have depth, morality and personal character flaws that (whilst maybe unrealistic at times), are consistent with the prequel.
The story, in my opinion, works best because it is unhurried. The viewer is given time to absorb the personalities of each character and their own reasons for their actions.
Watch Breaking Bad first. Get hooked. Want more and then watch this show.
