Watched the first two episodes of Euphoria on HBO. I think that’s the last one I’ll see. It’s like Less than Zero for the age of social media. It’s as bleak as any dystopian sci film and it’s set in current California. The so-called teens, especially the male characters, look 25 and it is relentlessly messed up sexually, socially. As usual, parents are literally absent at best, drunk, disconnected, and as clueless as the parents of James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause. There really are virtually no scenes in which a parent character is even fleshed out. As usual, there are no classroom scenes except the start of class and the ringing of the bell when everyone walks out. There is one scene with a teacher who walks in with a model of the female reproductive system and who says “listen up.” It’s beyond depressing.
