Idiocracy in space but it tries to take itself seriously. The technological marvel that is the space craft dispatched to investigate the source of the xeno-construct that deployed itself on Earth is crewed almost entirely by a group of unqualified young adults who are unable to work together or even understand the technology to which they are supposed to be stewards. In the absence of pictographic fist-sized buttons to control the ship, then, it’s fitting that they’ve been equipped with a ship’s avatar AI that can deus-ex-machina any loose ends after the gaggle of buffoons are done with the conflicts meant for them in any given episode. Despite this, the AI is the only likeable and rational character — a welcome rational-relief, if you will, from the utter inanity of everything else.
