If you're a casual gamer, you'll probably have fun. If you're not a casual gamer, read on.
The story is rubbish. It's like someone at gamefreak heard that isekai was a popular narrative format amongst kids these days and ham-fistedly forced the concept into the plot of the game.
The first hour an a half of the game is poorly written exposition and a (pathetic) tutorial that you're forced to suffer through.
There is only one character I remember and that's because he was annoying.
The looks of the game would be fine for a game that was $20 or under. With the pricetag of the game however, I'm calling it lazy.
This art style has been tackled gracefully in so many other games, and it looks like they just found what was free on an asset store under "low poly style" and dumped it in. Have a look at the character/object models in a cave, and you'll see that they didn't even attempt any anti-aliasing. I'm playing this game 7 months after it came out. They've had time.
The menus and controls weren't intuitive. If I went back to the game after playing something else for a few days, I would awkwardly fumble.
Catching Pokémon and exploring was something I found pretty fun. I had a nice time searching around and collecting apricorns and iron and crafting rather than having to spend my money.
However I suspect that gamefreak knew that they didn't actually put that much game in, because if you progress at a normal pace, they softlock the game until you do more "research" into Pokémon, which by the time you get to the last level of the game, is a bit of a miserable grind.
All in all, I had fun. I wish it had been done better and wasn't so frustrating to play, but it was an alright way to spend 30 hours.
