An Inspirational Book not only for Doctors but for Everyone who wants to become Successful
The medical fraternity of the entire world is fighting with the COVID-19 Pandemic and several doctors/health-care workers sacrificed their lives while saving others during the pandemic. The importance of hygiene, health, healthy lifestyle and hospitals are well realized by all global citizens. A Hippocratic Odyssey: Lessons From a Doctor Couple on Life, In Medicine, Challenges, and Doctorpreneurship is a very timely book during the COVID-19 pandemic era. Written by world-renowned eye doctors- Dr. Suresh K. Pandey and Dr. Vidushi Sharma, who are running SuVi Eye Hospital in Kota (Rajasthan), a city known as the most preferred destination for the medical (NEET) aspirants. Both doctors were trained from the most renowned medical institutes in India (All India Institute of Medical Sciences [AIIMS], New Delhi, and Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research [PGIMER], Chandigarh) and overseas USA and Australia. The authors reveal their medical journey from the uncharted territory and share several important pearls of wisdom for the trainee doctors.
I started reading this memoir and found it just unstoppable. Written in simple language, the book will give you a glimpse into the life of well-known eye doctors, Dr. Suresh K. Pandey and Dr. Vidushi Sharma. In the beginning of this memoir, Dr. Pandey shares the story of his freedom fighter grandfather, who was trained in 1937 from Kishan Lal Jalan Eye Hospital, Bhiwani (Haryana), and worked as an eye doctor in Ballia (UP). He participated in India's freedom movement along with freedom fighter Late Shri Cheetu Pandey and migrated from Ballia (UP) to Rajasthan after the "Rebel Ballia" movement in the year 1943. While reading these pages, I came across the story of the struggle of a doctor before India’s Independence (1947) and the respect given by society a few decades back.
Page after page, Dr. Suresh K. Pandey and Dr. Vidushi Sharma shared very powerful stories of their professional medical journey in India, the USA, and Australia and how they overcome the most challenging circumstances. More importantly, both authors offer several pearls of wisdom that will help all medical students, doctors in training, and medical professionals. Total of 450 pages of this book, the authors touched on each and every important aspect of the practice of medicine which includes violence against doctors, secrets of establishing successful medial practices, tips to become the best doctor, how to enhance patient satisfaction, and minimizing litigation, how to minimize the cost of medical treatment and the role of care, concern, compassion, communication to enhance doctor-patient trust, which is declining day by day during this era of Dr. Google.
The Foreword of this book is written by a galaxy of doctors who are honored with Padma Shri /Padma Bhusan awards and well known globally for their contribution to the medical field. All of these renowned doctors praised the authors for sharing valuable pearls of wisdom to medical trainees and young doctors.
The publisher (Bloomsbury, India) did an excellent job by putting an excellent layout of this memoir. I highly recommended this inspirational book to not only to all doctors but everyone who wants to become successful and achieve something significant in life.
