I completely agree that this is an excellent film and is well worth seeing for both the acting and emotion. It is just a shame that the legal principle it is based on is wrong. Under British law personal consent or refusal by the individual can be given at 16 years of age, and under the “Gillick” ruling in the House of Lords the refusal can be applied to a child under 16 who is judged to have the equivalent understanding of a 16 year old.
