Pretty decent album but mediocre by The 1975 standards, Notes on a Conditional Form marks the end to the MFC (Music for Cars) era, preceded by A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships. It is quite the embodiment of the lead vocalist of the band, Matty Healy, controversial, pretentious, derivative yet original, cocky, confident, cool, charismatic and very, very flamboyant.
Their inventive, genre bending style of music is to be praised, along with George Daniel’s production allowing Matty’s approachable yet esoteric muffled vocals to shine through. Think of it as all the wacky nature of ABIIOR with the uneven, mismatched, ‘unapproachable as a stand-alone work’ instrumentals akin to ILIWYS.
As a casual fan I enjoyed all the singles, all great stuff. The singles are as follows:
The 1975 (NOACF Greta Thunberg iteration)
People
Frail State of Mind
The Birthday Party
Me & You Together Song
Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America
If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know)
Guys

Save for the singles there’s only a handful of songs I liked and would return to, instead of listen once and appreciate. Don’t mind the unapologetic, in your face approach as it spawned great songs, too. So here are songs I liked off the album:
*Roadkill*
Oh gosh what a massively underrated song, only bad parts the lyrics ;)
*Shiny Collarbone*
It was alright.
*What Should I Say*
Pop yet experimental, great stuff.
*Bagsy Not in Net*
Great song.

It’s definitely clear the amount of effort that was put into individual songs paid of, great stuff there but the album as a whole is not cohesive or consistent unlike the rest of their discography, which has me giving a relatively lower rating as I’m rating the album. By no means disappointed just underwhelmed, still one of my favourite bands and it’s just a small downgrade from before but definitely not the first band to do so. Love the band, keep up the great work I can’t stress how much it’s worth a listen, everything delivered with class albeit less traditionally, especially Adam and Ross’ work, looking forward to a couple singles and EPs!
