I am very late to the party. I ended up literally binging the entire 7 seasons of
Gilmore Girls in a few weeks during COVID. I absolutely loved it and was so sad when it was over, grateful to at least have the “Year in the Life” remake! Wrong. During the regular show I loved Rory. She was the All-American girl next door. She made good life choices, grounded Lorelei and Emily, worked hard, and was just totally lovable. Fast forward 10 years (she looks the same by the way), and she’s a whiny, negative, entitled, cheating byatch. She’s not only cheating on her practically non-existent boyfriend who she would never be with and who nobody can remember anyway (what? Why even write him in), but she’s also managed to get entangled with Logan again, who is now cheating on his fiancè! And seriously, they named her ‘Odette’? Whatever. Both Rory and Logan behave like D-bags and the whole thing completely turned me off.
What the heck was up with the pointless, painful town show - the history of Stars Hollow? It didn’t even make sense! I fast forwarded through that whole ridiculous thing. 30 minutes back in my life - score!
And what the heck was up with Lorelai wasting almost the entire last episode trying to make some into-the-wild trek across California? Then she had some unexplained epiphany and came back to Luke and all had changed? They should have just finally been stable, had a kid, and gone on with their lives in the missing 10 years. Who the heck just sits around not doing anything for 10 years then is all of a sudden like “hey let’s finally get married and have a baby!” *where is the eye roll emoji when you need it?
There were so many other flaws that I don’t have time to get into. Sadly, the best part about this whole remake series was that it ended. And at least it ended with a cliffhanger so the writers have one more chance to get it right.
If there is another year in the life - please make it right for all the Gilmore Girl fans that are crying on their pop tarts after losing 6 hours of their life!
