Designated Survivor was a show with a plot that initially intrigued me. It had a good premise and some great casting. It also had some bad mis-casting. One example: the role of First Lady just felt wrong (even though I like that actress). That said, Designated Survivor should have been produced by Netflix from the very start. The first 2 seasons were... good. Some episodes were just okay. The show started off strong and began to peter out in the middle of season 2. I didn't even watch the last 3 episodes. It lost momentum.
Then I just happened to notice a 3rd season listed on Netflix, one that I knew had never aired on network TV. So, out of curiosity, I caught up on the season 2 finale (not awful). Then watched Season 3. And damn...Color me pleasantly surprised and pleased!
The grit, the real language, the better Writing AND Production quality really breathed some new life into this show. Along with the real issues, including LGBTQ, Unions, First Amendment Rights, and the use of real documentary footage of actual Americans telling it like it is..? Awesome. It speaks to many of the current problems in the US, and highlights the problems with Super PACS, Dark Money, and our current "POTUS". It speaks to Independent Voters like myself, who make up the majority of voters in this country. Honestly, the 3rd season left me wondering WHY it ever started at a network at all? It's that much better! Not perfect, but very gripping. It's honestly a shame that it's not getting a couple of more seasons.
Now if we could just find a real-world Tom Kirkman, we might actually fix our fractured real-world democracy. Watching this last season is inspiring for those of us that hope we can fix our nation's problems before another revolution becomes neccessary. Jmho!
