This is honestly one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Incredibly sexist and stunningly racist. There is 1 important female character, and she is a sexist stereotype of a whiny, bratty, stuck-up, selfish witch. She's constantly screaming about how much she hates this, how she's scared of bugs, how she doesn't want to get dirty, how she chipped a nail... the list goes on. She's awful to the point of rooting for her demise, which is bad because she's one of the main characters. Also, they make her kiss Indiana Jones, despite zero chemistry. She exists in the film to look pretty and make men feel superior. Honestly, I'd rather the film have no women than this shoddy flat dump-character. The film is also extremely racist, feeding into white savior tropes and full of negative depictions of Indian and Chinese people. Indian people are made out to be stupid and gross. I know times change, but how could anyone have possibly thought that this was acceptable??? The only decent, likeable character is Shorty. The movie is about 20 minutes longer than it needed to be, with fight sequences and escapes taking forever and becoming incredibly predictable. The staging and cinematography are excellent (it's a Spielberg movie; that's to be expected), but that in no way makes up for how completely atrocious everything else about it is.
