Huge disappointment. Kept waiting for Cage to shower and shave, for something to actually happen. He chose to get his face beat in, why? I'll tell you why. He did it because of his superior virtue. He did it out of love for his pig. He showed that he was willing to take a beating, hands behind his back, as a demonstration of his virtuous love for his pig. By doing so he demonstrated how he is so far above the typical superficial man. He cares not what anyone thinks of his appearance, how much he stinks; he is perfectly willing to take a beating, to endure physical pain, because he is virtuous. He is a symbol of the anti-shallow petty selfish and self conscious man - he is so far above all of that. So, the audience was forced to see him throughout the entire movie with the filth, the bloody face, the filthy clothes, the dirty beard. Odd that with the beating he took he never lost any teeth or broke a lip. Did Amir mind at all the stink that had to be surrounding Rob? How could he stand to be in a car with him? The hypocritical theme that Hollywood is so enamored with, that they love to present to gullible audiences, that noble men like Rob lose their one and only true love, that they must then give up everything, so virtuous, so touching, so very deep, yet the in the real world, back on planet earth, the character playing the role of the Nobel Rob, has been married five times. It helps make the movie so inspirational, believable, so very very deep. I think that Cage in Moonstruck was some of the best acting I have ever seen. He was awesome, and Moonstruck remains one of my all time favorite movies. But to see some reviewers rave on about Cage’s deeply moving portal here? I think he did ok with what he had to work with, but what he had to work with was such poor quality, that he did what he could with it, but he was sadly in a position where no one could have made this movie an enjoyable experience.
