This is a hallmark romance on steroids. There are many absolutely great lines and thoughts.
The reference to his sixteen year old duplicate having sex with himself wasn’t necessary and was just a nod toward moving society in that direction. The writing took the line of fatalistic philosophy, of which I am extremely familiar with on several planes, (I was absolutely immersed in it, through years of religion study categories that teach fatalism) and don’t think it was necessary.
Like a hallmark romance, the romantic connection is the entire theme. I was hoping it would have a larger scope. All really great themes, imprinted into the universe, like selfless love; sacrifice for others; honesty in the face of lies; helping others in crisis; true relationships based on unshakable commitment to someone or family member etc…. Seem to be missing. Some art and writing and music just tap into whatever appetite the public is hungry for based on sensory wants or the love of rebellion.. This has some tinges of that. But it moves visually fast, which helps the short attention span public.
