The idea of the government hiring a group of cowboys to hunt down supernatural creatures is an amazing concept for an action game. However, it falls short with the characters and writing. There really isn't a lot to this game past the flashy combat.
To start, the characters are lame. The girl who's name I already forgot despite beating the game 30 minutes ago and paying attention can be removed and the story would hardly be affected. They spent more time developing Jesse's mean boss than his partner/right hand man. The cutscenes start jarringly and usually talk about a bunch of nonsense and point you in the direction of the next monster to kill.
Once the yapping ends most of the levels consist of picking up money, big open areas where you fight things, and use long drawn out puzzles (such as pushing carts and blocks, or running around flipping switches) to lengthen the game time.
If you cut the fat off of this game (like the time wasting puzzles) it's maybe an 8 hour experience. However, I don't think it's completely bad. The combat was fun on a higher difficulty and the enemies are engaging and interesting. The only thing that I could nitpick is a few of the perks aren't useful at all and the guns don't feel as powerful as you would expect them to, but I think that's to make you use the gauntlet which is the key focus of this game.
But if you want to have a good time killer, it's not bad. A campy sci-fi western with some forgettable characters and some kickass bosses and fights. Just don't go into it taking it too seriously.
