Pretty good ghost story but it diverted from the novel a great deal. The hauntings were too many and unfocused which affected the story. The character of the housekeeper was a foil and quite boring. Wolfhard was good in this if only because physically he fits with the blue blood creepy messed up brother image. Flora was well played. Kate’s character was well acted. Setting and atmosphere were perhaps the better part of the film. Then again we’ve seen it all before. And that ending tried too hard to be clever—it wasn’t. Overall The Turning misses its mark as a cohesive work. Nice try though at a reimagining.
