I am giving this a lower score than the original, even though there are plenty of new things I enjoyed. The problem is that this is a director's cut in the truest form. The added footage, while occasionally scintillating, offers little to no impact on the story at large. Just because you shoot it, doesn't mean you have to use it. Show a little restraint.
I love Amy Adams and Willem DeFoe and J.K. Simmons but their use in the film is, uh, I don't know why they're there. I would have loved to have a proper Affleck Batman film with Simmons as Jim Gordon, with Deathstroke as the villain. I would have liked to see the Martian Manhunter and Green Lantern in an additional Justice League film. I would have liked to see a Darkseid payoff in the alluded-to Final Crisis story. But you know what? We're not getting those films! What purpose does teasing them do now? This is just Snyder showing us what we missed out on when his vision of the DC cinematic universe got cancelled. But guess what? It's easy to get people excited about 10 different 3 minute teases. Make a cohesive and interesting 120 minutes. Prove you can do that before you give us 240 minutes comprised of storylines to nowhere and preludes to nonexistence.
Is this a film or a compilation of Easter Eggs?
