I have been watching 60 Minutes for most of my 69 years. I am again incredibly proud of your critical coverage, tonight. I’m frequently surprised and delighted and sometimes astounded. But tonight I cried. It was appalling and shocking, and it made me incredibly angry.
It’s your story of the armed forces’ absolute disregard for human life during young Recruit Training due to the common usage of outdated and unsafe inferior military vehicles.
Those in charge of such careless training of young service people and putting them in dangerous and unsafe vehicles should be severely punished. Their negligence causes hundreds of unnecessary deaths in training long before they go out to risk their lives for their Country.
My Father spent his career in Service to this Country. Had his superior officers had such disregard for his life, none of his children, grandchildren or great grandchildren would be here, today. Three have since had distinguished Service Careers.
Your story accomplished good results in gaining a substantial increase in funding from Congress for upgrading one type of vehicle. Please, if possible, try to follow up with a report of further progress in this area.
Thank you all again for the amazing things that you accomplish in making ours a Better World.
Sincerely,
Judge B. A. Leon
