From a cinematography point of view it's a tour-de-force. Some of the scenes/sets are stunning and the surround sound effects are also amazing (bi-plane dog fight with the engine noise rolling around the auditorium)
The plot however is rather contrived and is simply a vehicle for the single, continuous take, technique they were trying to convey.
The pointlessness and stupidity of war is bludgeoned into the film as if it was aimed at 10 year olds but maybe that’s what millennial’s need.
There are numerous plot devices that simply don't work and seem to have been added just to keep the momentum going, along with the shock/horror bits that are gratuitously chucked in at intervals.
It's basically a one-trick-pony film that's good but not outstanding as war films go. After all the hype I left the cinema feeling slightly disappointed.
Still worth seeing though, even if just for the technical stuff.
