I saw all the negative reviews and figured I'd just not go, turns out it was a fine movie.
It's not a Batman movie, it's a Joaquin Phoenix movie. That's what people are missing. It ties in well with the first movie. The musical bits are fun.

This wouldn't have felt out of place at all right after Indicud. Glad he came back and kept pushing for something like this. It might seem repetitive or unoriginal to some, but it was almost certainly meant to be a throwback so that's expected. Guitar, hums, spacey, club music -- all there. What's different is the lyrics. Those early albums really empathized with an underdog or dreamer's mentality.
