I never heard of this man until I read this book. Frankly I didn't like the negative statements thrown out about this brilliant sailor at every possible turn. This book does not seem to respect him nor honor his contributions to the world's of boat mechanics and philosophy. His wife didn't seem to care much about him. At some point Crowhurst decided to plan and implement a fictional narrative concerning his boat trip around the world. He had his reasons, and gives new meaning to the saying "Oh what a tangled web we weave....". He becomes trapped in his lies and this makes for fascinating reading. The authors also taunt his later thoughts as the mind of someone deranged. Guess they never heard of Scientology, which he would have invented if it did not already exist. Crowhurst, I am sorry for what happened to you but more sorry that your life and mind was reduced to fodder by these supposedly well meaning authors.

This is the best book I have ever read on Fragile X, which my son and nephews have. It gives lots of personal stories but most of the writers, who are relatives of a person with X, seem professional in their own right, so the insight they offer is really excellent. Thank you to all of those diligent people who were able to express themselves so well and offer hope and truth to the rest of us. I am going to order two more copies; one to keep around the house and one for my son's workers and caregivers to read.
