A truly mystifying remake. More of a busy music video than a musical, lacking dramatic coherence due to rearranging songs and and resetting scenes, losing what appear to be excellent dancers in crowds of people, excessive camera movements and editing, the 2021 West Side Story had me saying "what the...is that about?" very often. The actor/singers are good but not great. Some stylish visuals, but not something I'll repeat.

It's too bad many people think this is just a car movie. It does deal with cars, but it puts the viewer in the driver's seat, and in the driver's mind. Ultimately, it's about transcendence at 7000 rpm and the ectasy of acceleration: endurance race-driving as mystical experience. The acting is excellent, and the movie is tightly and intricately constructed.
