A fever dream. Like a horrible stressful dream where you keep trying to get to table 27 to take their order but can never get there because things keep happening and the whole time you know they’ve waited longer and longer for you to come take their order (if you’ve ever waited tables you’ve had this dream).
*****SPOILERS******
After the first 20 mins of nothing happening my boyfriend begged to shut it off, but I didn’t, because I had been tricked, yes tricked, by the preview that some weird thrillery stuff was going to happen, and…kinda? But then nothing really happened. He fell asleep and I had just kept feeling like I committed to watching this and so I kept watching. I watched through all the weird boring conversations about relationships? And finished this movie because I was stubborn and this is what I earned. That’s the lesson taken from this movie. Just shut it off if a movie sucks.
Listen, I enjoy some smart, high-brow cinema, but this felt intentionally confusing and absurd for what? Is this what dementia feels like? Is that the point? You’re aging and there’s nothing you can do about it? Macabre.
Good acting, bad script. Privileged white man who thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room made this. Done.
