Dhootha is a reprehensible series which I watched by mistake, for a change due to someone's suggestion. It is shocking that Amazon prime allows the streaming of such a grossly violent series. All through the last century and more, initially dramas followed by cinema has been a driving factor to influence the masses to move society in a certain direction. Indian Independence movement benefitted. But in the 1980s the depiction of corruption led to the society becoming tolerant to corruption and came to accept that political, legal and law enforcement will be corrupt. This series is graphically violent and at at time when shootings at school and violent crimes are increasing, these type of portrayals will impact the mindset of the weak in a manner which logical people will not be able to comprehend. In particular some scenes cross the limit of sensibility. An entire family is shown hanging and this is shown several times. One lady is shown cutting her own throat graphically. Several characters are seen graphically killed by piercing through sharp objects. Yet another police torture scene is abominally violent And in each case blood is shown as if it was a soft drink being spilt. The script does not seem to see anything wrong that several innocent people can be murdered away while a seriously corrupt couple get away scot free in the end. The trend of violence is seen in several other content across many platforms over the last few years, and it is sad that society is being modelled on selfish, violent and anti-social themes in the guise of entertainment. The industry cannot take cover under the pretext of depicting what is happening in society as it has the capacity to influence society. By the same yardstick would you accept a school teacher teaching violence to your primary school children just because they have to protect themselves from school shootings which is happening in the society? Anyone associated with the production of this type of content, beware, the Karma of what you create might visit you in your own lifetime.
