This is a literal masterpiece. Like a modern day Pink Floyd album is all I can say.
I’ve been an Avenged Sevenfold fan since “waking the fallen” and have watched their music progress and mature over the years, always hoping for “old” A7X, but inevitably ending up enjoying the majority of what they put out.
I’ll be honest, after the first 2 songs, I was unbelievably disappointed. Not at all what I was hoping for, and was almost a little bit confused. By the time “We Love You” came on, I completely understood the direction this album was going, nowhere they have gone before, and it was an ABSOLUTE RIDE. The amount of love and care put into each and every one of these songs is nothing short of absolutely astounding.
The level of orchestral layering and production is an absolute treat to the listener, this is not an album you find often. It’s meant to be listened to from start to finish and is an unbelievably creative album, something of which I’m not sure I’ve honestly ever heard before.
You can tell they summoned The Rev, because it felt like his fingerprints were all over this, Syn as usual was brilliant, and furthered his creativeness with various instruments and effects. I’d imagine he had a massive part in the almost flawless production of the album as well. Shadows vocals were strong and powerful, sounding healthy.
It’s almost impossible to describe, but each and every one of these songs on this album resonate inside of you, in such a surreal way, it feels like magic. It has to be one of the closest things to music speaking to your soul available to listen to. “Cosmic” is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard in my life.
Do yourself a favour. Lay on the couch, a bed, a dark room, turn “Life is but a Dream…” on. CRANK IT. Close your eyes. Do not let yourself have any other visual or auditory distractions. Let yourself get lost in this album, it’ll be something you’ll never forget.
10/10 Truly an album that will be talked about years from now.
