This film reminded me of the first time I saw Donnie Darko in the theater when it was released oh so many years ago. It left me thinking and needing to watch it again. This film is entirely metaphorical and does not follow an obvious straight forward plot line. It will make you think and try to discern what every scene means and I enjoy that style of film making. I did not know the writer/director's vision going into the film, but as the the story progressed, I was able to understand (at a base level) the subtext. Reading some articles with the director/writer after gave me the "aha" moment and made me definitely want to watch it again knowing fully the artist's vision. The film was visually exciting and the soundtrack was great. Know that this is not a linear and obvious story, but rather a metaphor of the character's journey of self realization, grappling with being true and honest with themselves in light of "societal norms", and having the inner strength to ultimately be, or not be, able to show their true self to the world. This film is bound to be a "cult classic" as the years pass and hopefully it will help those who are going the through the same internal struggle of self honesty and the pressure and trepidation involved in realizing their true self to the world.
