It gives the impression that he actually became an MD. A psychiatrist is not dealing with medical problems, and a blind person could not. I worked in schools many years as a braillist with blind students. They need a lot of assistance. There was a blind teacher (pre-school) who got paid as a teacher, but the aides did all the work.

I read the book...twice.
Ken actually worked in a mental hospital.
You can tell it by the way he describes things.
The institutional mentality overtaking the people who work there and the patients seems very real and terrifying.
