I watched the whole show. The storyline would be a bit hard to grasp without books. Feels a bit rushed. I understand that show-runners decided to introduce all three main characters in the first two episodes, and that interfered with normal "book" flow. It happens much slower in the books- and it is much smoother . So there is quite a lot of "time-jumping" in the show not only from episode to episode , but even within an episode. For the viewers who have not read the books- it can't be an easy watch. First two episodes were directed by Sakharov and cinematography was average. I think show get's more interesting from the third episode and a little more linear. Cavill's acting, as I was afraid, is suspect. That monotonous , growling voice he took straight from Witcher 3 game isn't doing anything for me. Out of other main characters- Anya Chalotra is fantastic as Yennefer. Jaskier and Ciri are good. Now Tris Merrigold doesn't look the part (where is hallmark auburn hair?!) and her portrayal of the character is BAD.
They are changing few things from the book, but outcome or closure of each main event is about the same. They arrive most of the time to the same checkpoints (mostly) as in the books. Still an entertaining show so far. I have been waiting for this adaptation since 1991 ,when I have read first short story by the author in some obscure fantasy magazine in Europe.
If you are fantasy fan- watch it- it's entertaining. If you are looking for the next Game of Thrones- it isn't. It is different at many levels.
But if you do - pay attention in the first few episodes- there is a lot of info to process if you want to grasp what's going on later. Second season should be much more interesting , as they will delve into main saga books. And of course , budget will go up. So CGI effects (that golden dragon looked like 1950s cartoon) will get better.
