Fences should have never come to screen. This not an artistic review but a social commentary.
I love Denzel. Acting was so good that I hated him afterwards like we hated Danny Glover (Mister) after The Color Purple. However, these films that demoralize black women and children continue to "warm" our hearts and champion the men that trample and stomp out the dreams and goals of everyone around them. Somehow, he is still celebrated at the end for surviving life's abuses and defeats even though he becomes an abuser and the barrier that causes defeat in his family's lives. No-I will not celebrate this. I was done at The Color Purple, yet dozens more continue to come to show us what of the African American family? Madea?
