This had the makings to be a good movie but it was boring, was a bit all over the place and had glaring inaccuracies in it. Seemed to have a few sub plots that didn't really add anything of significance to the story.
Terminology used in the period when the daughter was a child was not used at that time but is contemporary to the time the movie was made.
Dora was such a huge activist, she would have been on to the authorities after the first incident when the divers were wielding spear guns. Instant action for any scuba diver using a speargun and bagging abalone using scuba - especially in drums on the ocean floor would have occurred. A ranger would have been actively monitoring the situation with surprise visits to the area once alerted to the illegal activity and the second incident would have been jumped on.
There is no way this situation would have escalated to the point where the police 'finally showed up'. This sort of 'fishing' has been monitored and controlled for such a long time that the 'developer' and the divers would have been hauled off facing serious legal action - not simply standing on the shore being questioned by some police after a repeat incident.
How long can a person not using scuba stay under water? Seriously, these people seemed to be able to breathe underwater. Mucking around with the groper a fair distance down and then after all that ascending again on one breath? Come on. Also, when diving the ascent isn't as quick as in this film - you can't ascend quicker than the air bubbles you exhale.
Cinematography cute but if one is familiar with scuba diving, snorkling and fisheries law in Australia, this film uses a lot of poetic licence and is quite unrealistic.
