Completely inaccurate, poorly edited, poorly cast garbage.
To start, I'm a fan of Scorsese, Pacino, etc. But as someone who knew the great Frank Sheeran, if he'd seen this, he'd be disgusted.
The story doesn't follow the book or the timeline of Frank's life hardly at all. Hollywood license I get, but this was pure fiction.
On the casting, everyone was honestly perfect, except DeNiro. First off he's too old and feeble to be playing wise guys roles anymore. Second, Frank Sheeran was nearly 7ft tall, DeNiro barely tops 5ft 5in on his best day. No one was taller than Frank, except Shaq. Last this is just another carbon copy DeNiro tough guy role like Jimmy Conway in Goodfellas. He's nothing like Frank, he acts nothing like Frank did or even makes an attempt to speak like Frank. For someone who famously asked while filming Goodfellas how the real Jim Burke held a ketchup bottle, he's clearly gotten lazy and uncaring about his performances. Just insulting to those who knew Frank and likely to his remaining family.
On a good note, everyone else besides DeNiro was fantastic in their roles. Pacino captured the fireworks that Hoffa brought to his speeches and his way around family and brother teamsters. Joe Pesci's performance as Russel Buffalino was the hidden gem. Capturing the calm and reserved nature of the quiet mob king pin. Even the brief appearances of Angelo Bruno were spot on to the real man.
This movie should have been made alot better, with a better casting for Frank Sheeran. The editing alone could be excused if Franks role was better cast.
Do yourself a favor, just read the book "I Heard You Paint houses" it's way better.
