The tattooist of auschwitz is a mini series of 6 parts which is based on the book of the same name shows the love story between 2 young Slovak Jews. The series is very well done, although many important scenes from the book are missing in the series (those who have read the book know what I'm talking about). By introducing the scenes or conversations of old Lali Sokolov with Heather Morris, we can find out how Lali as a young man became the main tattooist of the Auschwitz Birkenau concentration camp and how he met Gita, his future wife. In the series, every time someone dies, a gong rings and the figure of the deceased person appears. It is a tough series, with many hard-to-watch scenes that show exactly the life in the camp.
While Lali stays in the camp for 3 years, he risks his life to save lives, he protects the gita and tries to make a life for himself after the war.
The scenes that are missing from the series and are in the book are the following: Lali's conversation with Aaron, the selection process, Leon's selection, when Lali wants to know Gita's name and gives her the bread and the letter, when Dana tells him Lali that Gita has a fever, when and how she meets victors, iuri and leon, the rape scenes of cilka. How the later (cilka) begs schwarzhuber to spare lali's life, the development of the friendship between cilka and the girls, lali's questioning by Houstek, how Jakub arrives at the camp and how lali gives jakub food and says that the germans will find a job from, Jakub's explanations to this one when he have to beat him by getting the names, lali's beating, lali's conversation with gita at the beginning of the book about her name, the scene of the football match and the meeting between the 2 protagonists and gita ask lali if he loose hope and faith and so on. Coming back to the series, it's hard and hard to watch, but it's a must watch so that what happened in the past doesn't happen again.
