Having read and loved the book the move just felt hollow to me. All the parts were there, just lacking the substance. To me the movie would have been better being broken into two parts so they could really add some of the smaller details in and leave more room for character development. The fact that they rushed the first part with the tributes pre game didn’t really allow for any emotional attachment to be made to them. As well as the cuts of the scenes with his friends, Sejanus and Clemensia lacked the emotional connection we get in the book. It wasn’t a bad movie and I know my mother who hadn’t read the book very much enjoyed it. It was just a hollow movie in comparison to the book.
