If you had a top 10 list of most essential TV shows for your entire life time, then this is there and although it sits happily alongside other essential greats - this is top spot for me. I just wish there had been a season 6 and a final 7th in the making.
The story of Uhtred son of Uhtred (Uhtred of Bebbanburg) is certainly an intriguingly colourful one, one that experiences much but looses much in his quest-full lifetime.
The nitty gritty historical realism, cinematography, costumes, attention to detail and everything else when watching on a large screen with cinema sound, makes one feel that they exist within the world of past. Probably the closest we'll ever get without a time machine. Such a fascinating time to experience both visually and through sound, from the comfort and safety of our chairs without having to experience for ourselves the harsh realities of medieval times and deadly battles.
The Last Kingdom is a visual feast, a vivid mental trip and memorable experience. I certainly shall be watching it again at some point.
