I had the pleasure of meeting Col Tom Kolditz a few years ago when he was on a lecture tour in New Zealand, and I subsequently corresponded with him two or three times for his Leadership insights.
Tom's book "In Extremis Leadership" is a remarkable work because it covers Leadership from the viewpoint of what distinguishes a great Leader of teams that go in Harm's Way, from Leaders who don't need to do that.
At the time, this subject was relevant to me as a National Director of the Guardian Angels organization: I attended his lecture and bought his book because I wanted to lead my teams effectively and safely into and out of potentially dangerous situations, and I needed to understand how to do this properly. Tom's book had the answers I sought.
It is a great book, and it belongs on the shelf of anybody who aspires to take up the burden and privilege of Leadership.
