I really didn’t appreciate the suggestion that the black people of today would stand around in the masses and permit themselves to be treated this way. We are not our great grandparents and I did not appreciate the submissive nature of this film.

The whole movie felt somewhat forced. Jennifer Lopez seemed to try too hard to be tough and distant and never quite got there. The rough voice was annoying, as was the unnecessary evasiveness. The young actor, Lucy Paez, who played her daughter, did a great job and should have a promising future.

I get pretty annoyed at movies/series with vague endings. Truthfully, I was agitated by the ambiguous ending of Donald Glover’s Swarm. I enjoy the movies/series that inspire conversation about the show because the ending could make you draw different conclusions (i.e., Inception, Prometheus, Matrix, Hereditary, etc.). Still, you are fulfilled by what you saw. Vague endings are different. You feel let down and unfulfilled. The producer, Donald Glover, had us leaning into the suspense (because it was very well done) and then dropped us at the end. My son and I didn't know Swarm was a series, so when we started watching it, we said we would only watch a couple of episodes. However, we were there until 3:00 am and watched the whole season. We kept saying we would stop after the next episode, but we couldn’t. We needed to see more. I was so excited for Donald Glover while I was watching this series. I thought it was bold of him to state that this was inspired by Beyoncé’s Beehive. So yeah, we were pretty upset at that ending and not excited about a possible season 2.
