A great book to dip into to add a little learning for a Songs of Praise etc.
Now in my retirement I am working through it again and I've just come across a puzzling claim. In his writing about Come, come, ye saints (26), a hymn I have never heard or sung, I notice that Ian Bradley claims that the hymnwriter took the tune from the old English folk song 'Good morrow, Goossip Joan.' That is a song I have not sung or heard for more than sixty years but I remember the tune (and checkecked it online, and the hymn could not possibly be squeezed into it's tune.
Is Bradley wrong about the words or the tune?
