This was my least favorite of the MCU spiderman films. I felt like the story was so plain, and felt like I was watching a child playing with their toys. I feel like the studio banked on the Nostalgia boners of fans of the old films and judging by the swath of 5 star reviews it paid off.
However if you look at this film and disregard the older ones, the character being brought into this universe seem so hollow. Especially Andrew Garfeild, who seems to just be there to sell people on Sony and their terrible spiderverse films. (I do not mean the animated film which was fantastic, but rather the amazing spiderman, and the venom and upcoming morbius movie. ) Toby maguire is a little better and fits an older Peter very well.
The one good thing going for this movie is that Willem Dafoe and Alfred Malina are fantastic charcter actors and filled their role in this "story" extremely well.
The thing I think would have made this movie better would be by having a few other spiderman rouges appear that none of the other spidermen have been show to fight in their worlds. This would have given the feeling that we weren't just getting the spidermen right out of their respective films, but rather they lived on after the films ended, which they poorly try to show by having Andrew Garfeild expound on how he went dark after his highschool crush died.
All and all it was an OK film, but definitely on the worse end of the MCU movies, I honestly felt like this was more similar to Thor The Dark World over Endgame.
