I enjoyed it, finding myself drawn back to it repeatedly. Creating the stories of several families covering about one hundred years was an ambitious undertaking, to say the least, for this first-time novelist, but Michael Weiner pulled it off. Developing his “both sides” theme, his leading characters achieve great success for themselves and their families, but then recognize their responsibility to use their wealth to benefit our broader society. As a medical doctor, Weiner also weaves into his story some of the outstanding medical advances of the twentieth century.
