Just another 2020 failure, one thing to expect when it comes to turning a book into a movie that it's not going to be scene by scene and line by line. Sometimes they chamge something's, others left out but most of the time it's there you can see the boom has become a movie..... this hasn't.
There are better adaptions out there, it loses its most basic heart felt moments and relies on more metaphorical moments which wasn't needed. The film tries more on the magical sense and less on the plot and it's pathetic sense to change the characters - and this is coming from someone who actually likes the cartoon adaption which didn't follow the book either!
What infuriated me the most about this movie the obvious tick boxing, the fact we need a black character which historically is not correct! The fantasy part in the book is the garden itself, it's in the title everything else is takes place in its historic form, from the horrible Victorian medicine to views and treatment of 'natives'. Many of challenged the book as racist but that's what was like in that time period it's a fact that shouldn't be changed. It's what we need to learn to grow instead if ignoring it like it's a problem. I'm all for diversity but when it comes to history that's something we shouldn't change.
There are honestly better adaptions out there which really brings out the book
