Super Smash Brothers Ultimate is both one of my favorite games and one of my most hated games. The offline modes are fun and all, had a blast with the story mode and had a great time at some parties with Smash mode. But the glaring issue with this video game has to be the online. Nintendo Online is already pretty infamous for being the worst way to spend $4 a month, but Ultimateโs online takes it to another level. The biggest issue (in my opinion) is the terrible balancing, not only with the characters but with the competitiveness as well. Nintendo has made it clear since Brawl that they donโt want Smash Bros to be played competitively, but they want it to stay a stupid baby game made for babies. That is why characters like Samus, who can be the smallest character in the game, fast, have enormous hitboxes, spammable projectiles, and still be a hard to kill exist. And also why characters like Ganondorf, Little Mac, Doctor Mario who have been bottom-tiers since launch exist (there are pros who have somehow made these three viable, but the fact that a toddler could get to their level online is comical). The balancing is completely coming from casual babies (note: Iโm a filthy casual myself). Itโs gotten to the point where an aborted fetus could flop onto a Nintendo Switch controller, happen to press the โAโ button on Pyra/Mythra and get Elite Smash within a few minutes, which brings me to my next point. Contrast to what I said earlier, Nintendo decided to make Ultimate more โcompetitiveโ than previous titles. With this came the introduction to the GSP system, which ranks you worldwide to other players. If you reach a certain amount of GSP, you get Elite Smash (which just changes your title card for the online mode and occasionally matches you up with a skilled player). This system rewards babies for picking good characters. Thatโs all I have to say, goodbye.
TLDR; offline good, online is for babies
