An Accidental Death was an interesting book with an interesting lead character, D. C. Smith, a has been policeman mired in a somewhat immature idealism possibly held over from his adolescence. He was a detective once apparently and demoted himself because he wanted to be in the midst of all the interesting police work....not directing or leading it. However, he takes it all into his own hands anyway and ignores anyone who doesn't agree with his own assessment of things.
The second book sees more of the same in Smith, but even surlier, snider and more holier than thou then the first book. I don't like him.
But for the Grace basically has no plot and a pathetic conclusion. Some may think it doesn't really conclude at all. Certainly there is no resolution. If you are looking for a well paced who done it, well, this isn't it. It's mostly dull, tends to being philosophical, and reveals more than we ever want to know about D. C. Smith's life and background. He really isn't a very interesting person.
