A Mediocre Story Painted in Brown Oil
The filmโs standout feature is its visual style. The fact that every frame is hand-painted is simply stunning. However, the movie doesnโt fully take advantage of this unique medium, except for maybe five scenes. The rest is largely photorealistic, and after about 10 minutes, I stopped noticing the painting style altogether.
As for the characters, there was little to no development. Most of them had a single goal and stuck to it throughout the entire movie. This made it difficult for me to form any emotional connection with them. The male characters mostly resort to fistfights rather than meaningful dialogue, while the female characters spend most of their time gossiping behind each otherโs backs.
The plot itself is quite simple and could easily be summarized in two or three sentences. There were no real surprises or twists.
On the bright side, the soundtrack was enjoyable. I had never heard Slavic folk music before, but it was beautifully done and added a unique touch.
Overall, I wouldnโt recommend the film.
