It’s too often that movies like this get made. This movie lacked originality, suspense, mood, pacing and acting. I wanted to like this, but truth be told Hollywood doesn’t care. Why was this even made? Who was it made for? Great storytelling is a lost art, the acting was unbearable and it relied too much on the typical jump scare tropes. If I had paid to watch this in the theater, I would have asked for a refund.

This movie shook me to my core. I’ve seen many horror movies that tend to be too predictable and over saturated in blood and gore, but this movie pushes past all of that and delivers actual fear and suspense. Much like the original Halloween from 1978, the killer isn’t really seen by we the audience, but rather stays in the shadows. The pacing, soundtrack and story is perfect, but Ethen Hawkes performance is what really sells it. Less is more.
