I saw this play this week, haven't read the book. For the first 10 minutes or so I was asking myself why I wa sitting in the the theatre, watching a kids' play along with hundreds of school children. Soon I was as enthralled as the kids though didn't really understand what the meaning of the play was. I did enjoy the drama, the scariness, the loud bangs , bright lights and puppets, the actors were.pretty good too! By the end I still hadn't a clue what had been going on and thought I'd read the book to see if it enlightened me. Reading some of these comments, I think maybe not. I did quite enjoy the experience though.
